Building Inspectors now Licensed by BC Government
The Provincial Government has introduced legislation that requires all Building Inspectors to be registered to provide building inspections commencing September 2016.
The introduction of this legislation is to protect the consumer and will have impact on inspections. Inspectors will have to show they are licensed to carry out inspections.
Before an inspection can be carried out the Buyer will have to have entered into a contract with the Inspector prior to carrying out the inspection. Garages and carports will also require inspection. If any building on the property particularly acreages will have to identify what building will require inspection.
All inspections will have to carry liability insurance as identified by the legislation.
Commencing in April 2017 further legislation will be introduced which will impact building inspections. Building inspection fees will no doubt increase. For more information, visit the Provincial Government’s website.
